Scientific knowledge is essential for successful bear management and conservation. However, science is not the only factor influencing management decisions and conservation goals. Politics, economics and values also come into play. With these social considerations in mind, how can science contribute to the management and conservation of bears? And what does the future hold for bears, people and research?

This section addresses these questions and provides examples of bear management and conservation actions in the Canadian Rockies that came about directly as a result of research about bears and people.
