Welcome to an electronic version of the Measures in Time exhibit.
This presentation is part of a web site
that is being developed to “freeze” and preserve what you have
seen on the walls of the Whyte Museum. Like snow that falls on a
glacier, this site will undergo changes. Long after the exhibit
closes, this material will take on a life of its own on the
Internet where it will serve as both a visual souvenir and a
starting point for students who wish to explore the fascinating
science of glaciology, fresh water and climate change in the
Canadian Rockies.
These pages were developed as a cooperative venture between the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies and Dr. Dan McCarthy of the Department of Earth Sciences at Brock University. John Taylor and Cara Van Ness, both Brock University students, worked on this project as part-time research assistants and were hired under Brock’s Experience Works Program. The web display was developed by Brock students Robert Graves and Matt Clare who are part of Brock University’s student web development team. The posters and most of the illustrations used in this display were produced by Mike Lozon of the Department of Earth Sciences at Brock University. The staff of Canada’s Glacier and Mount Revelstoke National Parks, the National Hydrological Research Center in Saskatoon and Michael Demuth of the Geological Survey of Canada provided historical photographs and assistance in the collection of archival and recent glaciological data. Scientific data, illustrations and advice were also kindly provided by Dr. Brian Luckman of the Department of Geography, University of Western Ontario and Dr. Trudy Kavanagh of the Department of Geography, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
The project was supervised by me, Dr. Dan McCarthy of the Department of Earth Sciences at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. I want to express my sincere thanks to all who have helped in the production of this work.
