From: Smith,T.F., 1949. Memorandum re glacier studies in northern Selkirk Mountain Range. in Report on glacier studies in British Columbia 1949, C.E. Webb (editor), Water Resources Division Report 2281, Department of Resources and Development. Vancouver, B.C., December 19, 19pp.
- Rocks "B", "C", and "D", were set in 1898 by the Alpine Club of Canada.
About 1 1/2 miles up the left bank trail from Glacier House and 150 yards before the end of the trail (i.e., where trail emerges from alders and ends on slide rock), a large boulder on the south side of the trail is marked in red paint "To 'B' and an arrow indicates the direction.
-
Point "B" is 10 yards below the trail, painted in red on a large boulder.
-
Point "D" is 534 feet directly across the valley and toward Mt. Sir Donald. It is a large, brown, double rock marked with red paint and approximately 50 yards from the lower end of the alders.
-
Point "C" is approximately mid-way between points "B" and "D" and 60 feet north of the line between them. It is marked in red on a large white boulder.
R.P. "1" - Painted in red with u and arrows on high ridge of bedrock just north of 10 x 6 balancing flat boulder.
R.P. "2" - Painted in red with u and arrows on low ridge near couloir in which lowest point of glacier lies. It is on the left bank of the couloir, 363 feet from R.P. "1".
R.P. "3" - Painted in red with u on bed rock at northern end of high ridge on edge nearest glacier and south-east from R.P. "1".
R.P. "4" - Painted in red with u and arrows on bed rock at southern end of col almost engulfed by left side of glacier (in 1945).
R.P. "5" - Painted in red with u and arrows on point of bed rock. It is the lowest point of moderate slope above steep slope to valley floor. A small cairn is built at this point, but it probably will not survive the winter. It is seen on sky-line from Rocks "B", "C", and "D".
R.P. "7" - Painted in red with u on bed rock at northern end of high ridge on edge opposite R.P. "3" and south-east from R.P. "1".
R.P. "11"- Painted in red with u on rock ridge on southern side of col running between R.P. "4" and R.P. "11".
R.P. "12" - Painted in red with u and arrows on bed rock on northern side of glacier and about half way up glacier to the neve. Visible from R.P. "1", "2", "3", "4"and "7"with transit.
R.P. "13" - Painted in red with u and arrows on bed rock which is smooth and fairly steep. On northern side of glacier tongue and nearly to the neve.Almost directly in line with R.P. "1" and "12". Visible from R.P.
"1", "3", "4" and "7" with transit."
